My favourite things

I'm busily cleaning up the office area and wading through emails ... the boy is playing in the room beside me ... and singing.
Right now he's singing "my favourite things" ala Sound of Music.  The cute thing is if he doesn't remember the next line he makes up is own words then continues on.
When the dog bites, when the bees sting, when I'm feeling sad ... I simply remember my favourite things and then I don't feel so bad.
This is one of *my favourite things!

The Day After

I'm missing my little boy so much this morning!
We spent the whole day celebrating his birthday yesterday.  We had so much fun!
Thankfully, there is only one hour left until I can head home for some play time with him before hopefully he will have a nice long nap.

Verse of the Day

No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
-- 1Corinthians 10:13

Baby Signing Time

When I get home from work at lunch time, I have to get the boy settled and then sit at the computer again to work.  Typically the boy will play with various things and then ask to watch "Ernie-Burt, Mommy?"
But today, I beat him to the question with "Want to watch BabySigningTime?"  Oh his eyes lit up and he says, "Oh yes!"  He ran to the DVD player and says "In, Mommy?"  then runs to the couch to wait for it to start.
Now I'm sitting at the computer working, and being distracted by the giggles and happy sounds and random words coming from the boy as he sings and signs and does some things that the kids on the video are doing.
It's so cute!
Highly recommended ... http://www.signingtime.ca/ ... in fact, I ordered a new one today specifically for potty training.

Tuesday

The conversation between DH and I this morning.

"I think it's just Tuesday and not Friday yet."
"Well, let's make it the best Tuesday ever."

... perspective ...

Here's to the best Tuesday ever!

Cookie!

The boy tried a chocolate chip cookie for the first time today.
His eyes lit up and he said "So yummy!  Yummy for tummy!"

Tuesday

I woke up feeling a little a lot on edge this morning.
Too much to do, so little time to get it all done.
Lord, give me your peace and strength today!

Favourite Expression

The boy's current favourite expression?

"Oh My!!!"

It's just adorable.

And he charmed all the ladies at the bank this morning too.  Such a funny guy!

The Right Focus

From our morning devotions book at work ... it's a good one!

The Right Focus

"You, Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm." Isaiah 26:3

Your life is like a camera; you've got to focus it right to get the right results.  Having the right focus brings four results:
(1) It simplifies things.  When you're not clear as to your purpose, you try to do too much - and that causes stress, inner conflict, and confusion.  You have only enough time and energy to do God's will.  Not getting everything done may be an indicator that you're doing far more than God ever intended.  Focus leads to a simpler lifestyle and a saner schedule.  Only when you keep your focus can you keep your peace:  "you, Lord, give perfect peace to hose who keep their purpose firm."
(2)  It gives you direction.  If you want your life to have impact, consult God, then do what He tells you.  Don't confuse activity with productivity.  Diffused light has limited impact, but when light's focused like a laser it can cut through steel.
(3) It energizes you.  It's meaningless work, not overwork, that wears you down.  George Bernard Shaw wrote: "This is the true joy of life: being used up for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; being a force of nature instead of a selfish little clot of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy."
(4) It determines your legacy.  When people recall your name, what will they associate with it? "a good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold" (Proverbs 22:1). Ultimately, what matters isn't what others say about you, but what God says. So focus on the end game.

Extended Summer

We had a lovely start to the long weekend ... dinner at the waterfront and a stroll in the twilight.  Caleb saw stars for the first time (thanks to the early sunset and staying out later than normal bedtime).  He was so delighted!
It was such a treat to have a picnic in early October.
Thanks, God!

October

A new month ... a new start.  I love the beginning of things.

Good morning!

I woke up this morning to a little voice singing "Jesus loves me".
What better way to start the day!
(And it was nice that he let me sleep in a little too!)

Bedtime

What is sweeter than hearing a little voice say, "I wuv you, Mommy"?

Drivers

Is it just me, or are the car drivers in this city forgetting the rules of the road?  Or are there just a rash of cars that somehow can not signal anymore?   Or did I not get the memo that I need to learn how to read minds to know when and where these people are turning?

Bed please?

So the first words out of the boy's mouth this morning after Hi Mommy was "Stay in bed".
Seriously, what kids wants to stay in bed instead of getting up for yummy breakfast and a day of playing?
Crazy kid!  :)

Sweetness

I LOVE coming home to big hugs!

Another Nightmare

I had a terrible nightmare last night.

We were playing at the park and the boy pulled out of my grasp and took off running wanting to be chased.  But, I couldn't catch him before he reached the road.  He was hit by a passing car and flew through the air.

When I woke up, it was all I could do not to rush into his room and pick him up to hold him close.  I'm still on edge about it.

tummy happy

I picked this up today ... an early b-day treat for my hubby.

Coldstone's Midnight Delight ... delightful!

Hug Please?

Today, for the first time ever, the boy came up to me and said "Hug please, Mommy?"
*heart melts*

Dreaming

I appreciate the fact that I can experience interesting dreams and remember them.  Really.  (Last night my dream was that I was graduating high school with average marks and for whatever reason, the military shut down that area of town and deemed my celebration party a threat.  Odd, since I graduated with A's from high school 20 years ago and besides dinner with my family, no celebration.  Ha!)
But could they just not happen before I need to get up.  I need to get up instead of making my alarm going off part of the plot and then sleep for another 40 minutes!!!

Mom

I love my Mom.

Amazing Grace

This was my favourite song from church this morning.

"Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)"

Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed
My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace

The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures

[2x]
My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God, Who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
You are forever mine

Helper!

You know you're blessed when your 21 month old insists on sweeping all the floors and mopping the kitchen.  And won't take "later" for an answer.

Saturday morning

I love that when the boy stirs on Saturday morning, Al gets up and takes care of him and lets me catch a few more winks.

Teddy Bear Picnic

When I went to get the boy up after his nap today, I was serenaded to the 21 month old version of the Teddy Bear Picnic.  Next performance was by Mommy.  Then the boy insisted on doing it himself again.
And my heart melts.

Shoes

I've been looking for shoes for "the boy" for over a month now.  Not just any shoes ... size 6 black dress shoes.  Nothing special right?
Apparently so, since I haven't been able to find any under $50.
Seriously!
There are a ton of pretty little girl shoes.  But what is available for boys?  Running shoes.  Or work boot style boots.  Please!
I needed the shoes by Wednesday morning when we head off for a wedding in Ottawa.  So, I went out on a mission last night to find the shoes at the mall for the 3rd time.
Woohoo!  They were found! *sigh of relief*
